In loving, living memory, John Melançon 1928 – 2007
Monday evening after leaving Mary's work (SAIC) and an amazing meal at the Chicago Diner (vegan Philadelphia cheesesteak, polenta lasagna, and chocolate mousse and chocolate chip carrot cheesecake – we shared all our dishes) Mary showed me the immigrant justice mural a healthy walk from her apartment in the now heavily Mexican Pilsen neighborhood. I spotted some old machines with wheels and had Mary look and she said they are small printing presses, not set up yet, in the Yollocalli space. She will follow up! That would be beyond awesome for her to be able to volunteer and help set up and run and teach with those.
Sunday Mary had gone with her boyfriend to a wonderful old neighborhood Baptist church to Handel's Messiah performed by the all-black Apollo singers and orchestra. Free, all ages there, fully attended, all lines from the New Testament, deeply moving, and stunningly done, Mary said.
Tuesday I met up with Jeff Houde and Bec White for lunch, and talked a lot of small business things. Jeff is getting his MBA and is really interested in business theory and practice. Very nice.
