The subject should be halfway between being part of what you're doing and "i'm with an organization you should know about"- but my organization is a bare shell now (not even a web presence, and i'm a web developer).

I'm at NCMR and just saw you on the panel, excellent, thank you. I think i have something to offer in your goal to see everyone on the planet connected: how to make it scale.

My passion is building communication and collaboration tools that cannot be controlled by any individual or group, but that belong to everyone in the network. Tagline for the organization, Visions Unite (a project of the dormant 501c3 People Who Give a Damn) is "Everybody's voices, nobody's noise."

The technical hack i want to add to the community moderation that helps CraigsList and Reddit work is, i hate to say it, scientific sample polling-- but as a way of sharing the work of doing the moderation needed to scale communication and connection to millions or billions.

On the one hand, this is democratic communication, which means it will not favor the radical messages and approaches to organizing which i feel are necessary. However, the true center would be a massive improvement over the manufactured center of the current media, and give us as a society the capacity to learn and not have repeated media-performed lobotomies.

And unlike the subscribe-to-what-interests-you model (which is also needed), a purpose of this democratic moderation is to choose which messages should reach everyone. Which doesn't need to mean merely everyone already in a/the network. We as a particular cause or a broad movement could choose to build up a communications infrastructure to reach as many people as possible-- up to every person on the planet, knowing that what we are building will always belong to us as much as to anyone else.

Please let me know if any of this fits with any of things you or others who connect with you try to do. No rush, i'm backlogged with other work, but i'm building these tools starting this year.

Thanks for all you've done already,

benjamin
