"Lull in U.S. Drone Strikes Aids Pakistan Militants"

The headline could have been "Slaughter of Pakistanis by Remote-Controlled Aircraft Pauses, US Empire Does Not Crumble". Indeed, they do not cite a single material bad thing that has come from months of not killing people with drones-- not even the assistant professor of political science who spent a month in Pakistan and is able to implicitly endorse drone assassinations with the unsupported claim that militants are "taking advantage of the respite." Sickening and evil that the New York Times has to phrase as aiding an implicitly-asserted enemies a pause in killing that -- aside from the unproven nature of the allegations against those targeted -- has absolutely killed innocent people, children, and ... soldiers.

A bonus sad irony in the story is how it reports on the Taliban's concern for their public image (NYT says they recognize a need to lay off the kidnappings), a concern apparently beyond the grasp of the United States (NYT found no US official to speculate that killing people's relatives might lead to retaliatory violence).
