Views of other Native Groups on the Oneida Nation in New York
The Oneida people of New York are not the only Oneida harmed by Halbritter. wrote:
February 16, 2002, it was announced that a settlement agreement had been reached by the State of New York and Ray Halbritter’s government. We are 94% of the Oneidas in the United States and 75% of all Oneidas, to not be at the table and represent the concerns of our people is, to us, unthinkable. The Supreme Court decision acknowledged that we are all successors-in-interest. That means we are entitled to a proportional share of any settlement. How could we support a process to which we were not even invited, with reported terms that are not inclusive of our people’s interests?
We are now being characterized by some as, “out of state interlopers.” Had the State not illegally taken our ancestral homelands all Oneidas would likely still be in New York. Our government has twice prevailed before the U.S. Supreme Court on these issues. The decision of the highest court of the land acknowledges that we are not interlopers, but legitimate holders of legal rights that are being denied.

Do the smear tactics here sound familiar? When “some” people are saying something bad about Oneidas who aren’t Ray Halbritter, he’s probably paying them.
