Cooked for mom tonight

Fairly inspired meal, for no planning, and the inspiration being, too much cauliflower:

white rice, cooked with some garam masala and such.
small white beans added in with the rice after it was cooked

two carrots, one very small onion, one head broccoli, one half of a huge head cauliflower, one small yellow squash, one zucchini.
cooked in the (phoenix-like risen from the ashes?) wok in olive oil, with salt, turmeric, paprika, curry powder, and more turmeric, and a little soy sauce, touch of sesame oil.

Chopped ahead of time and cooked pretty quickly.

Survived a dangerous dinner

K and i were both sort of looking at and holding onto my laptop, and dropped it off the table when the waitress brought some free advance food. (K

Now poor Ebony needs the side of her monitor duct-taped up. Can't quite get everything to pop in. Have to hold it and be careful when closing the lid. Never stopped running.

And the tamale came with what the chef swore was not cheese, but she couldn't identify the ingredient, either. Got to trust people a little, i guess. There was an in-between ingredient that definitely wasn't cheese

Cornocopia Institute finds corporate organic food is bad. Go local!

Andrea telling me:

Cornucopia Institute

monitor places that claim they are organic
released their findings
haven't read it, heard it on FSRN, but it doesn't look pretty - the big chains claiming organic stuff

Michael Pollan was saying another tactic they use, and then for the last two weeks, they open up the barn– and at that point the chickens don't leave

Made a recipe from Dani's twitter that came in at the perfect time

Tomatoes, red onions, cut into thick slivers. Olive oil, garlic salt, pepper, herbs de provence. Roast @ 300 for 90min; you will taste LOVE.

K liked very much.

Recipes of Udupi South Indian Vegetarian Cuisine Onion Rava Masala Dasa with Chutney

Recipes of Udupi South Indian Vegetarian Cuisine's frozen Onion Rava Masala Dasa ("Rava Style Onion with Crepes, Stuffed With Flavorful Potatoes & Onions") with Chutney is quite good, and can be bought at the Natick Indian Grocery store on route 9 just beyond the Oak Street crossing (towards Wellesley).

Viva Mi Arepa

Venezuelan food in West Roxbury, we arrived just after they closed (at 7 p.m. on Sunday) and the woman apologized, but then, as we left, asked if we had come far. On learning that A was up from New York City and we had come from an event in Boston to come eat there, she told us to wait, and went in back and got some leftover empanadas, which were not vegan but i was told were excellent.

Buying food

Saved $40 on a $200 grocery bill. With $33 of meat. Do i have to bill Andrew and Stefan for it to remain a vegan shopper?

Send off from Dan and Vafa– amazing raw food

Dan made cauliflower soup. With almond milk, yellow bell pepper, garlic, and lots of tahini hummos. We could eat pureed vegetable all day.

Grand plan for meal not followed

To be fair it, wasn't written, either.

The grand plan for the meal, pre-meal, was noted as follows:

Lots of falafel

Salsa, which can go on the falafel
http://www.recipezaar.com/Sun-Dried-Tomato-Salsa-Raw-Recipe-337528

Vegan sushi plus crab meat

How it actually turned out: falafel, which involved throwing unmeasured and uncut chickpeas, chive, baking powder, salt, cumin, and olive oil in a blender.

Dan and Shannon helped make it slightly more like real falafel (I created something of a mush).

Veganism Is Not Virginity

This is just a public service announcement to those members of the general public who like to think that the life's worth of a vegan is undone by taking a bite of steak or eating a slice of cheese pizza.

Being a vegan is not defined by the same rules as being a virgin. It's not once you're not you never are again.
